Flatiron's 5th Ave. Sees Retail Rent Increases Amid Slowdown, Study Says

Retail rent prices fell in almost all of Manhattan's major shopping corridors over the past year - except for Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District, where rents actually increased, according to a new report by the Real Estate Board of New York . Between the spring of 2016 and this spring, average asking rents for ground-floor retail space declined in 14 of 17 top Manhattan corridors, but rose on Fifth Avenue between 14th and 23rd streets by 18 percent - from $390 per square foot to $456 per square foot, the study states.

Despite a gloomy outlook for malls across America, New York's dense population and expendable incomes are keeping it in the forefront for new stores and locations, according to the new report from the Real Estate Board of New York.

US man beats Asian, screams 'we are white power'

A 48-year-old man in the United States has been charged with hate crime after he pummelled an Asian man in the face screaming 'we are white power', 'go back to your country! What are you doing here?' police said on Wednesday. Steven Zatorski, stormed up to the 30-year-old victim on Third Avenue in New York and started kicking him on Monday, police said.
